The Brief History of We Love to Play Going back to our roots in high school we were among the first generation to play in adapted sports. Many of us started by playing floor hockey whenever we could; through our schools and often at the Courage Center in Golden Valley. As we left school we still wanted to play hockey and other sports; we took advantage of every opportunity we could. But slowly through the years the programs where we could get together and play were disappearing. In 1994 a group of friends gathered after what would be the last game of the last available floor hockey program and decided to see if we could do something to get people together, friends like us, to play adapted sports once a week. We started making contacts; looking for a place to play. We found the opportunity at the Courage Center; we were able to use their gym on Saturday afternoons to get together. We started getting the word out that we were going to play floor hockey again and everyone was invited. In January of 1995 we had our first official season; six weeks of floor hockey and it was great fun. In the years that followed we have added adapted softball and a sport that was unknown to many of our players; adapted football. In the spring of 2020 we will complete our 25th year of playing adapted sports; getting together 28 times a year. Over the years people have come and gone, but one thing is constant; we still love to play.
